You can’t touch it, but it affects how you feel – You can’t see it, but it’s there when you look at yourself in the mirror
You can’t hear it, but it’s there every time you talk about yourself . What is this important but mysterious thing?

To understand self-esteem, it helps to break the term into two words. Let’s take a look at the word esteem (say: ess-teem) first. Esteem is a fancy word for thinking that someone or something is important or valuing that person or thing.
For example, if you really admire your friend’s dad because he volunteers at the fire department, it means you hold him in high esteem and the special trophy for the most valuable player on a team is often called an esteemed trophy. This means the trophy stands for an important accomplishment, So put the two words together and it’s easier to see what self-esteem is.
It’s how much you value yourself and how important you think you are. It’s how you see yourself and how you feel about your achievements.

Self-esteem isn’t bragging about how great you are. It’s more like quietly knowing that you’re worth a lot (priceless, in fact. It’s not about thinking you’re perfect — because nobody is — but knowing that you’re worthy of being loved and accepted
Self-esteem isn’t like a cool pair of sneakers that you’d love to have but don’t have to have. Good self-esteem is important because it helps you to hold your head high and feel proud of yourself and what you can do.

It gives you the courage to try new things and the power to believe in yourself. It lets you respect yourself, even when you make mistakes and when you respect yourself, adults and other kids usually respect you to. Having good self-esteem is also the ticket to making good choices about your mind and body If you think you’re important, you’ll be less likely to follow the crowd if your friends are doing something dumb or dangerous.

If you have good self-esteem, you know that you’re smart enough to make your own decisions. You value your safety, your feelings, your health — your whole self. Good self-esteem helps you know that every part of you is worth caring for and protecting. Babies don’t see themselves in a good or bad way” when they let out a big burp or worry “Oh, no, this diaper makes my legs look weird. ” Instead, people around a baby help him or her develop self-esteem by encouraging the baby when he or she learns to crawl, walk, or talk. ” When people take good care of a baby, that also helps him or her feel lovable and valuable.

As kids get older, they can have a bigger role in developing their self-esteem:
Achievements — like getting a good grade on a test or making the All-Star soccer team — are things kids can be proud of.
So is having a good sense of humor or being a good friend. A kid’s family and other people in his or her life — like coaches, teammates, and classmates — also can boost his or her self-esteem. They can help a kid figure out how to do things or notice his or her good qualities. They can believe in the kid and encourage him or her to try again when something doesn’t go right the first time.

It’s all part of kids learning to see themselves in a positive way, to feel proud of what they’ve done, and to be confident that there’s a lot more they can do. Maybe you know kids with low self-esteem who don’t think very highly of themselves or seem to criticize themselves too much, Or maybe you have low self-esteem and don’t always feel very good about yourself or think you’re important.

Sometimes a kid will have low self-esteem if his mother or father doesn’t encourage him enough or if there is a lot of yelling at home. Other times, a kid’s self-esteem can be hurt in the classroom. A teacher may make a kid feel dumb or perhaps there is a bully who says hurtful things. For some kids, classes at school can seem so hard that they can’t keep up or get the grades they’d hoped for. This can make them feel bad about themselves and hurt their self-esteem

Their self-esteem will improve when a teacher, tutor, or counselor encourages them, is patient, and helps them get back on track with learning. When they start to do well, their self-esteem will skyrocket, and some kids have good self-esteem but then something happens to change that. For example:
If a kid moves and doesn’t make friends right away at the new school, he or she might start to feel bad. Kids whose parents divorce also may find that this can affect self-esteem. They may feel unlovable or to blame for the divorce.

A kid who feels too fat or too thin may start thinking that means he or she isn’t good enough.
A kid who’s dealing with an illness, such as cancer, diabetes, or asthma, might feel different and less confident than before
Even going through the body changes of puberty — something that everybody does — can affect a kid’s self-esteem.
Of course it’s OK to have ups and downs in your feelings, but having low self-esteem isn’t OK.

Feeling like you’re not important can make you sad and can keep you from trying new things. It can keep you from making friends or hurt how you do at school. Having strong self-esteem is also a very big part of growing up. As you get older and face tough decisions — especially under peer pressure — the more self-esteem you have, the betterIt’s important to know you’re worth a lot.

If you think you might have low self-esteem, try talking to an adult you trust about it. He or she may be able to help you come up with some good ideas for building your self-esteem. In the meantime, here are a few things that you can try to increase your self-esteem. Make a list of the stuff you’re good at. It can be anything from drawing or singing to playing a sport or telling a good joke. If you’re having trouble with your list, ask your mum or dad to help you with it. Then add a few things to the list that you’d like to be good at.

Your mum or dad can help you plan a way to work on those skills or talents ” Be specific about something good about yourself, like, “I was a good friend to Jill today” or “I did better on that test than I thought I would”. While you’re at it, before you go to bed every night, list three things in your day that really made you happy.
Remember that your body is your own, no matter what shape, size, or color it is. If you are worried about your weight or size, you can check with your doctor to make sure that things are OK. Remind yourself of things about your body that are cool, like, “My legs are strong and I can skate really well.”

Remember that there are things about yourself you can’t change. You should accept and love these things — such as skin color and shoe size — because they are part of you, When you hear negative comments in your head, tell yourself to stop.
When you do this, you take the power away from the voice inside that discourages you By focusing on the good things you do and all your great qualities, you learn to love and accept yourself — the main ingredients for strong self-esteem.
Even if you’ve got room for improvement (and who doesn’t), realizing that you’re valuable and important helps your self-esteem to shine.

Note: All that is written on kids health is for information purposes only. You should always consult your
health care professional.

Self-esteem is defined as “a confidence and satisfaction in oneself” It is your overall evaluation of your self-worth and how you value your own attributes. Your self-esteem depends on how you compare what you’d like to be with how you actually see yourself.

Your self-esteem is involved in the decisions you make throughout your day. As you grew from childhood to adulthood outside influences have played a part in setting the level of your self esteem. Do you now realize that the people who influenced yours were wrong.
Were you bullied, did you grow up in a challenging home that has left your self esteem, and confidence, dented?
As an adult you have the opportunity to re-examine your level of self-esteem by asking for feedback from people you respect
Believe it or not, criticism can be a positive thing, if you can learn to see the positives of someone valuing you enough to give you honest feedback, or constructive criticism, you can improve your performance.

Of course, more often than not, criticism will hurt your feelings, but when you can be honest with yourself, and discover that maybe what was said is true, you can take the opportunity to work to improve yourself in that area. If there are things you’d like to achieve, and believe are possible, set yourself a goal, and work your way towards it.
If your goal seems too big, break it into smaller pieces, and aim to get through each part until you finally complete it.
Surround yourself with good people, friends who you share a mutual trust with, this will boost your self esteem.

Try to stay active and enjoy yourself, Staying healthy will enable you to feel better about yourself and your self-image.
Try not to feel self-conscious about yourself, If you are self-conscious in a social situation focus on the following:
Just because you lack confidence doesn’t mean others can tell.
Try not to constantly say things like “I’m no good at anything” this will not help your self esteem, or confidence.
Self-esteem is not just about thinking positively about yourself all the time, it is about being realistic, and about not thinking badly about yourself for no reason.

Try not to be afraid of failure It is how you deal with it that sets you apart. Everyone gets knocked down at some time, so the real question is, will you get back up?
Make a pact with yourself to gain from the experience every time you attempt something, and don’t succeed. You will be surprised at how much stronger you will feel when you realize that you did actually learn something from your disappointment.
When you work to raise your self-esteem don’t expect changes all at once. Beating low self-esteem is a wonderful thing, and it is easier than you think. A good level of self-esteem is essential for you to function successfully in your professional and personal life.
Think good thoughts about yourself whenever you can. Know that you are as good as the next person.

This is your self-esteem, self confidence building website where my goal is to give you as much help as you need to build your self-esteem, to be more confident and to live a happy, prosperous life.

Why High Self Esteem is a Bad Thing. It’s understandable why many people think that high self esteem is the antidote to low self esteem In life generally, if you have too little money, lots of money is attractive If you don’t have enough food, a banquet is highly appealing, but you need to think about high self esteem differently.
Self esteem is more like paracetamol – the right amount will help you, but too much is a very bad idea indeed

Truly low self esteem is a terrible thing; having the opinion that you yourself are worthless – are rubbish – is a condition no-one should have to endure but high self esteem is a serious obstacle too, if not for you, then certainly for those around you Some characterstics of people with high self esteem are:
Being prone to self satisfied boasting. Tending to be smug and superior. Abusing relationships, assuming their needs come first in any situation If this doesn’t happen, they will become angry and bullying adopting an air of superiority, simply because they have skill or luck in a particular area of life Being blind to their own faults and so are unlikely to change or improve themselves Tending to have impulse control problems.

There is also now a wealth of evidence linking high self esteem to criminality. I often hear clients suffering from real low self esteem compare themselves with the swaggering, loud super-confident lad at their school, or the superman in their boardroom, but that does them no justice at all.
I would much rather spend time with someone who has lower self esteem than someone with super-high self esteem – they are generally just nicer people. Understanding that the super-confident individual has a handicap as real as their own can make a great difference to the way they feel about themselves. With self esteem, as with so much in life, balance is everything.
You think other people control your life, but deep down you are actually frustrated with yourself for letting a lack of confidence force you to accept that control. Do you talk about yourself in a genuinely positive way? If not, I think you should because being positive about yourself is the natural way of discovering a healthy self-esteem.
A healthy self-esteem is like an armour against the world It gives you an easier time handling conflicts and resisting the negative opportunities around you.
This armour makes you are more realistic and optimistic person who smiles a lot, always enjoying life. With this armour you go into the world to fight challenges that just cause anxiety and frustration, giving you low self-esteem.
If you think poorly of yourself you will struggle to find good solutions. If you keep thinking you’re no good you will become depressed and just constantly think “I can’t”.
How you feel about yourself defines your character, how you motivate yourself, what your outlook on life is and so on. This can define your emotional stability in how you control your feelings. Self-Esteem is how you perceive yourself in the world. Being unbalanced here will lead to low self-esteem. Self-esteem can always change as you go through the world gaining new experiences and learning about yourself.
Having your armour on in the first place just makes things bounce off making life that little bit easier, Without the armour, each learning experience might chip away at you, depleting your coping abilities and turning you into a quitter.

How do you feel about the company of others? Whether you love or hate the idea, your success is dependant on others, you are not a one man band and your success in life is dependant on other people. Make some adjustments in perception and think on this. We all know people struggling with marriage problems, is it because they failed to keep the honeymoon period alive or because they failed to adjust to the evolution of that relationship?

To achieve success in your relationships whether personal or business, you must accept, and be prepared to change and adapt. If the company you work for or your own business, is not making the required level of profit, would you put forward ideas and identify cost savings and alternative working practices? You would most certainly change your ways,
are relationships any different? No, they are not, most failures are due to our inablilty to see the truth of the situation.

We live in a disposable world, if the current relationship is not working throw it away and try another! In this ‘convenient and fast food world’ we live in, we want everything now. Relationships personal and business fall apart, mainly because people do not have the intent or patience to make them work.

Personal success – financial success will not appear at the snap of your fingers, it will not happen overnight and it will require patience. Have you noticed the perceptions that some people have? They know what you are thinking and feeling and act accordingly. Perception is an observation of words, movement and body language, this ability marks you as an individual. These are all forms of communication and this is the answer to all and any relationship. Make the way and manner that you communicate yours and brand this power.

Let me share with you this no cost video, that will take you step-by-step through losing the negative thinking patterns that damage our future.

Ever wondered why you were passed by on the last round of promotions? Then wondered even harder how it is that others without your qualities were selected ahead of you? There is a good chance that you were not in the running because you were not being noticed enough, to shy maybe or timid about putting yourself forward.

Shyness is often quoted as the opposite side of the coin from confidence and many would agree, a small level of modesty is pleasing however not the level of shyness that inhibits your progress.
To many shy people believe that their shyness is just ‘one of those things’, in their genetic pool, handed down by the ancestors. The truth is any shy person can lose their inhibitions if this is their choice… We can be whatever we wish given the right mindset and the will to change. Stop giving yourself the label “shy person”

So, if we give an affirmaton of shyness to ourselves, obviously we can equally affirm an outward self confident person. Clear your mind, nothing is cast in stone, do not dwell on your shyness, think instead about a confident you – picture yourself in a situation that previously you have avoided, but this time the image is of you handling yourself in a confident way. This picture or visulisation will begin to affirm the new you!

Please don’t fall into the trap of taking a drink to keep the shyness at bay, it may help you lose the inhibitions but it will cause more lasting damage in your everyday life. We can all remember taking a few drinks and feeling very very confident, also feeling that we can do anything we want. So many shy people have a glass or two, new people are not so frightening then. Drink makes us feel bold within ourselves and here is the key. To develop a method to view people differently, Use your imagination when you next approach someone, this is the easiest way. Remember how we discussed
using your mind to change your belief system and your view of your identity, use your imagination to view others with the same open mind attitude. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

A tip to try – I call it the car park space. You have set off in your car instead of dwelling on the grief of finding some place to park your car, on your journey imagine that space right in front of you. Hold in your mind a picture of you driving along the road and there is the space right in front of you, just waiting for you to park up! Try this every time you go out in your car,
immediately put the visulisation into practice and continue with it throughout your journey, this works try it out.

Take a journey along the road to self discovery for your future.

Well life is a bundle of laughs isn’t it! Difficult times, challenges, hardships are all part of the rich tapestry of life.
Adversity is not a bad thing… Dealing with the issues it brings is what matters. A positive mindset is important, to think positively will also improve the quality and quantity of your performance. Feeling positive also link to you feeling well.
Neuro transmitters such as serotonin control the capability levels in the brain, a positive mindset will boost your immune system which equals better health.

Remember the times of feeling down, depressed even… You are certainly open to catching diseases and issues arise around your mental health. Everything becomes a difficult if not impossible task – this state of mind needs to be avoided.
Everyone feels unhappy occasionally, the manner or way we deal with this mindset is what makes the difference.

Retain a positive mindset and you can do anything – maintaining a can do approach will enable you to recognise opportunities and not view them as issues or difficulties. These opportunities become real when you possess the desire to succeed. The problem can be gaining a positive mindset.
This is not a new idea, for centuries people have searached for and developed the techniques to achieve this state of mind.

Obtaining and maintaining a positive mindset can only lead us to success and fulfillment, whilst the negative mindset will take you in the opposite direction.

Think about your behaviour with people, when you meet new people are you happy and open to talk with them, or are you uncertain and afraid? One way to make some changes in overcoming a negative mindset is to think about your attitude to your world and the people in it. Do you feel uncomfortable with others? You might want to try this out!
At the next opportunity start a conversation with someone you don’t know, do this at random and do not worry about your appearance, or even what you say, it could be a mention of the current weather… Try this out and really think about how you felt afterwards.

How you act and react to people has a direct bearing on the opportunities that come your way. For example:
Which person will advance the most out of two or more folk of similar abilities and knowledge, the person who is open and comfortable around people, or the one who is uncomfortable and insular. If it was my decision on which one to work with or promote, I know which one it would be.

I discovered how to overcome ‘obstacles’ and build a successful and rewarding life, to obtain your no cost video showing you step-by-step how to overcome negative thinking patterns visit:

Thinking on the past and trying to discover what could have been done better on the road to success can be a problem for some, they are not able to cope with the emotional pressures the mind can bring into play.
Emotions – these all begin in the mind. Remember feeling sad, happy, angry, anxious, you didn’t just think about these emotions, they came with sensations, our bodies feel these emotions quite often intensely. Remain
aware of how you are feeling and why, self awareness is important here, you would not want to make crucial decisions if you were not in control of yourself.

Lets discuss self awareness. Before making important decisions which require a certain level of self awareness remember, once you feel in control of your own circumstances decision making is easier. if your self awareness is felt to highly it can have an adverse effect and leave you feeling unable to commit to those important actions. The key is balance, and some help is at hand for you.

Being mindful originated from the teachings of Zen Buddhism, put very simply it means living in the moment with an open mind that makes no judgement on that moment. A very simple concept but it will challenge your self discipline. Just observe what is happening in your mind and around you.

The mind is viewed and described as a machine that judges by the people who teach mindfulness. Recall the almost natural way we arrive at judgements on situatons and people. Way back in the time of our ancestors those judgements were a matter of life or death, eat or starve, whether to stay and fight or run away. Those hunter gatherer days have mellowed some what, we see things as either good or bad or neutral. Being mindful would encourage you to observe everything with the same attention level without judgement.

Try this out and allow yur mind to be refreshed with a calm state of mind that will only apply rational actions. Start now with this exercise; the very next person you encounter look at them through fresh eyes, put everything
you know about them and their abilities to one side. Try this with anyone, family, friends, work associates in whatever situation you meet them.

The importance of mindfulness on a personal level, comes from understanding whether you are thinking something
that will help you realistically or hinder you. Learn to experience your thoughts without making a judgement on their validity. If you consider that most of the negative thoughts you have experienced, tend to distort your
mindset and did not help you at all… Let these thoughts go. Do this by identifying them as symptoms which you visualise as being disgarded.

Learn to view your thoughts and emotions objectively this will improve your overall contentment. When you feel low and dispirited recognise the negative thoughts as just that thoughts, not actual facts. Face the darker
side of your mindset and emotions, and deal with them in reality.
Just as with any new learning experience, practice mindfulness. enjoy such simple pleasures as eating, listening to music, relaxing in your garden, to name but a few.

Think about your goals, then focus on the personality traits that are keeping you from it, they could be lack of confidence, anxiety and shyness, all of these can be overcome.

Feeling unhappy, unfulfilled – then feeling guilty because you have a loving family, career, and and so on, shouldn’t you be counting your blessings rather than feeling discontent? You may very well have all of the above levels of success, feeling unhappy is more than likely a result of your potential still waiting for the key to be turned!

Can these feelings be changed? Is it possible to move off the treadmill and change paths? Habits – we all have them, examine the habits in your life that you have avoided or been reluctant to change. This is almost certainly why you have not taken the next step to your true potential.
Let’s think about habits for a moment.
The technical explanation is “Habit is a form of behaviour that automatically directs your activity without the need for conscious thought”. What we do in our daily activities has its basis in established habits. Our personality is formed from our habits. Think about it – our personality difines the person, issues begin when we accept these habits as unchangeable.

Look to the root of these issues – ourselves! Yes the way we think. You will have heard of reformed characters, probably read stories about them and they do exist. Imagine a former bad boy whose modus operandi was disappearing into the night with the bag of swag over his shoulder. Ultimately he is caught and sent down, he does his time and returns to the world. One night he walks past a house that appears to be empty and the door is ajar, open invitation to slide in and help him- self, he pushes the door closed and walks away! This occurence would have caused excitment and the emotions of opportunity once, but no longer, he made a conscious effort to break that habit and the way he thinks about his place in the world. He has chosen to change the way he fits into the world – the world has not changed.

if you change the way in which you interact with the world then you can bring about change. Our habits can be broken and replaced, the power of your will can change them. What is the most powerful mental force we possess? Imagination… All of the advances of humankind originated from imagination, this is the place our hopes and dreams start.

Use your imagination and form images of the changes you want to make, this is a powerful tool and will certainly speed up the process of changing your mental habits. Find a spot to be comfortable and sit quietly. Think about a goal you desire to achieve and focus on the personality traits that are keeping you from it. Depending upon your goal the traits holding you back could be lack of confidence, anxiety etc., face them, and begin to imagine yourself in the opposite trait, eg., feeling and behaving in a confident and positive way achieving your goals.

Don’t underestimate the power of your thoughts, by playing the visual images of your dreams in your mind you are building positive mental habits for your future.

One important secret ingredient of leadership is self belief. Discover how to obtain this.

What forms the makeup of a leader, is it the balance at the bank, does financial success alone mould a leader, very rarely, often money alone is not enough. Some very wealthy people have not been happy souls, money is just one part of the whole. Wealth on its own will not complete the person, you must consider personal fulfilment and the spirit of your life.

leaders in the fullest sense are respected, looked up to and capable of dealing honestly and fairly with others. Whatever role you are in currently, think about the people in your circle, what do they think and how do they
respond to you? No-one can reach the high levels of success alone, for you to arrive at the top, people need to do what you require willingly.

We know that business leaders of today are not motivated by helping people. There are however, companies that are a priviledge and pleasure to work for. Organisations and business people that fall into this category both operate with the correct mindset. Their vision of how to do business encompasses values, respect, decency and a caring attitude, with two way traffic on the road to prosperity. None of this is easy to achieve, this mindset is the foundation of real leadership – it will be worth the effort.

Being an easy touch is not an option here, to soft will be taken for weakness and business cannot be all tea and biscuits in front of the fire! A real leader will command respect without being tyranical or an easy touch.
Leadership at its best is balance, being fair and respectful but equally firm and strong minded when ever necessary.
The successful business owner and manager has the interests of his or her enterprise at the forefront.

One important secret ingredient of leadership is self belief. Demonstrate this and confidence in your abilities to draw belief from others. Giving a clear and noticable presence, that demonstrates a firm hand at the helm.
Self confidence brings with it an aura of power assisting you with tough business situations. Keep cool and receive the rewards of clear and confident decision taking.

There is a feeling out there that leaders do not always understand what is happening in their organisation, in some cases this is very true – don’t accept this in your business. Your must know and understand every part of your
organisation or profession. Never be above asking questions, reading and exploring research options, stay on top of current issues. A wise person once said that knowledge is power – this is a truth.
The more you weave into your cloth the more you will grow in confidence. Set the example and inspire others.
